Seven!!

Our biggest boy turned 7 yesterday, although it does not seem quite possible that 7 years have passed since his birth- I remember it all so clearly still. I guess the birth of one's first child is not something easily forgotten! Sam's Grandma B and Jane are visiting us from Iowa, so we had a fun family party for Sam this weekend. Grannie and Grandpa M. came over for a yummy dinner and present opening. We reminisced about Sam's birth, as they were all in San Francisco with us for the big event, as were some of you, my faithful blog readers!! We are planning another party with his friends for this coming weekend, hopefully at a park, weather permitting.

Quote of the Day

We've finally gotten around to toilet training Patchie, although why exactly we decided to do this with a newborn in the house, I'm not quite sure. But, it did seem like time, so that's what I've been doing these days- nursing the baby and running to the bathroom with Elias. Yesterday he pooped in the potty and when I asked him if he was sure he was all done he said, glancing down into the potty, "Oh yeah, because that one is awesome!"

5 weeks

I know I keep saying how fast time is flying by, but really now- 5 weeks, already? Slow down, baby! He is growing so fast- getting chubby little cheeks and the start of an adorable double chin. He is starting to have some longer awake periods which is nice, and of course, those heart-stoppingly gorgeous little grins. He consistently sleeps for at least one 4 hour block at night and is always down for a nice afternoon nap with me, if I can squeeze it in. All in all, it's been a good 5 weeks. I'm trying hard to soak in all of his sweet babyness, because I really know how very fast it all goes.

The payoff

These first real smiles, when your baby is awake and looking right at you, are really what it is all about!

Sling Time

Atticus and I are starting to venture out of the house just a little bit- mostly to hang out in the front yard with the two big boys. Here is Atti, all snuggled into a New Native Sling we borrowed from a friend. It's a pretty sweet ride. Maybe tomorrow we'll try a little stroll around the neighborhood!

Look who knows how to smile for the camera already!

Atti is 3 weeks old!

I'm really too tired to write much here. Everything is going well, but life with a newborn, while wonderful in so many ways, is also just plain old exhausting! I'm not quite used to all the night time parties Atticus likes to host- I think it gets easier once you sort of adjust to it, but I'm just not there yet. Today I did manage to get both Elias and Atticus asleep at the same time, so we all took a lovely nap together. I could have stayed there all afternoon, but after about an hour and a half, they were both ready to get up and, yep you guessed it, eat again! Life with three boys- it's really all about the food. I can't imagine what the teenage years are going to be like...

So, here is some more ofAtti, in all his delicious newborness. I'm sure I'll get back to photographing the other two, but for the time being, you'll have to indulge this mama, who is quite sure she has the most perfect looking baby ever!!

Sweet slumberer.

Trying out the pacifier. Do you think he is embarrased?

He smiles!

Waking up to the world.

Patchie is Three!

We're back! Atticus is two weeks old, and I am starting to emerge from the new baby fog...a little bit anyway. Enough to celebrate the third birthday of my now middle son, Elias. We had a fun little party for him on Sunday- a few friends, some snacks, and a sundae bar. It was a beautiful day and we were able to be in the backyard, where the kids played knights and croquet.
It is a little hard to believe that my "baby" is three years old and that my other baby is going on three weeks old. Not to mention that other big guy who is going to be seven in a few weeks. Seven!! Where did the years go? Life certainly is full and busy these days. I am trying to make a very conscious effort to slow things down and enjoy the everyday moments of life with all my boys. Having a newborn helps- I seem to move from my bed to the couch to the rocking chair all day and night long. Lots of time reading, thinking, or watching the big boys play while nursing Atti. It is a very sweet time, this newborn time- a very dreamy, mellow time- until the crazy three year old comes barreling into the room, brandishing sword and shield!
