Quote of the Day

It's spring time, and my boys are growing with the season! Their appetites have increased and they seem to need more calories these days. They were hungry after dinner the other night and both demanded spoonfuls of peanut-butter (yes, multiple spoonfuls). Tonight they both ate a good dinner, but were again asking for more food as we were cleaning up after our meal. Thinking that they needed more protein, I suggested hot dogs. A resounding "Yes!" came immediately from both parties, followed by Sam saying, "Mom, fire two hot dogs!"
Now, for all of you who have never had the pleasure of working in a restaurant kitchen, this is what the chef says to the line cook when an order comes in. We had just recently eaten at Julia's Kitchen, and apparently Sam was paying close attention to what his Dad was up to while we ate!
And for all those inquiring minds out there, yes these were real, meat hot dogs, not tofu pups. The boys have both had the real deal at friend's houses and seem to prefer them to the weird, rubbery, non-meat version. So, I am now happily preparing meat hot dogs for them. And turkey bacon. And making home-made chicken fingers. How times change...

Here are a couple of funny/cute sleeping shots thrown in for good measure.

Happy Easter!

First Harvest!

When Grandpa Moustache visited last month he did a lot of great yard/house work here, including planting a sweet little garden for us. I've been battling with the snails and slugs a bit, but in general the plot is flourishing. We had our first harvest the other day- enough for two big salads for me! Thanks G.M.!!

Here are a few more pictures from around our yard. We are so happy that spring is here!!

Quote of the Day

I do it my OWN self!!!!!!

Ah, life with a two year old! This quote pertains to pretty much anything Elias might want to do, from getting out of the bathtub to putting on his shoes to pouring his cereal. I should have a picture of the determined, stubborn little look that usually accompanies this statement, but this one is all I have right now- plus, it also shows off his cute new haircut!

bedtime

Usually bedtime around here is a pretty staid affair. Jeff works most nights, so by the time bedtime rolls around, I'm pretty beat and ready to be "off-duty". But some nights we have to shake it up a little...

Along the way, we met some horses...

Sam was a little nervous and hung back at first.

Elias was thrilled and couldn't get enough.

Eventually Sam warmed up too, and we all fed them some grass. Next time we will definitely bring some carrots!!

Patch...

he's just so darn cute!

A chef in the making?

Last night, Sam created the most unusual (and that's me being polite) snack that has perhaps ever been eaten in the state of California. He took some of the wagon wheel pasta that we had for dinner (a new mosherboy favorite, by the way) that had been tossed with asiago, olive oil, and parsley and wrapped it up in a sheet of nori seaweed, which is the kind used for sushi. He claims it was delicious and ate it with gusto.
I've always said he was kind of a strange boy...

A new character in our house...

known as the "Half-Naked Knight". Watch out!!

Bunk bed!!!

After some months of searching, we finally found the perfect bunk bed on craigslist. jeff assembled it a few nights ago, and the boys have been sharing a room every since! I'm so happy that they are finally in a room together, and hope it fosters more closeness between them. Sam has spent a couple of nights on the top bunk, but he has also been sharing the bottom bunk with his brother, which is really beyond cuteness. The bed is a full size, so it easily fits their two little bodies. I think they both like the company and enjoy the cuddling.

Here they are last night.

And again, a few hours later. Awwww!!

Quote of the Day

Sam got a great new pair of Keen sandals recently. He put them on and immediately said, "I can go really fast in these, cuz' they have great contractions!!"

We made granola today.

It's so yummy!!

Little hands just couldn't wait to get it into their mouths, but who could blame them?

Thrifted

Look at my beautiful new casserole dish!!

Quote of the Day

Elias and I were doing some curbside construction watching earlier today. He is (like most boys I know his age) pretty fascinated by all things big, loud, and mechanical. And if they happen to be dirty, all the better! So, we were watching the work for a while when one of the "'struction guys" came over with a pair of ear-muffs, explaining that things were about to get very loud and I may want to protect my little one's ears. Needless to say, this is now one of the highlights of Elias' whole life! We stayed for a looooong time (luckily I had some knitting with me!).
Anyway, so Jeff gets home in the evening and I'm helping Patch tell him the story of our construction adventure. "And then, what did the worker guy give your when it got real loud?" I prompt him. Patchie immediately clamps his hands over his ears and says, "Ear gloves!"
